Former army lieutenant opens SIX3NINE fitness club in Covent Garden

James Conci Mitchell, an ex-army lieutenant, has opened an independent fitness club - SIX3NINE - in Covent Garden, London, following the conversion of disused office space into a functional training zone offering personal training.
SIX3NINE has been set up mainly as an open-plan gym containing a comprehensive free weights selection. Mitchell appointed Escape Fitness to create the space as he faced a number of challenges relating to the property's flooring.
Escape's flooring expert, Paul Lipscombe, came up with a bespoke solution which included levelling and screeding of the entire ground level and hand painting of a sprint track.
When deciding on the equipment for the club, Mitchell again turned to Escape Fitness and chose kit including the TRX Suspension trainer, a torso trainer, Bulgarian Bags, classic dumbbells, X-rack, a selection of kettlebells and an Eleiko bar.
The gym also features two dual adjustable pulleys by Life Fitness along with a range of specialist kit, while the practice has seven pieces of commercial CV equipment including treadmills, cross-trainers, upright bikes and a rower.
SIX3NINE offers specially designed treatment space, where trained staff provide sports massage and remedial therapies. Mitchell has secured a 15-year lease for the 232sq m (2,500sq ft) site, which is being operated as personal training club.
Memberships are available from around £70 a month and the number of memberships has been capped at 200 in a bid to provide the "best possible environment for clients". The prices for personal training sessions start at £50 an hour.
